The hydrotherapist will assess your pet each time they see them, prior to the session. The length of session will depend on their age, breed, fitness level, health condition and other factors. The session time may include land based therapies and/or hydrotherapy that can range from a few minutes up to 20 minutes of actual hydro time.
Depending on your dogs initial mobility levels and/or stress levels some sessions may only include static hydrotherapy with passive input from your therapist such as massage, gentle weight shifting, water disturbance etc.
Your first hydrotherapy session will be the first time your dog has seen or experienced hydrotherapy and this session will be taken slowly as we help your dog to understand what they are being asked to do without causing undue stress. Treadmill sessions: We may or may not turn on the moving treadmill belt on the first session depending on your dogs immediate requirements but our therapists are able to provide other clinical input to your dog even during static periods if required. Pool Sessions: Many dogs have never experienced a ramp and we may carry your dog into the pool water if this is deemed safe and appropriate by your therapist.
Your dogs welfare is our highest priority and we will never force a dog to do anything it is not willing to do, This is counter productive to hydrotherapy and may also cause injury or stress to your dog. When introduced slowly and carefully the majority of dogs learn to enjoy hydrotheapy, however we will advise you if we feel that hydrotherapy is not or becomes unsuitable for your dog at any time. In this circumstance alternative land based treatments can be provided if appropriate or we can recommend other providers that may be better suited to your pets needs.
The Vet Referral Form must be completed and returned by your vet prior to your pet undergoing any treatment.
You must inform us of any changes to your pet’s health or medication since completion of the Vet Referral Form so we can take this into consideration. Certain conditions, such as ear, eye or skin infections or gastric upset may be exacerbated by the chlorinated water. If you are in any doubt of the health of your pet, please contact the centre with at least 48hrs notice. Normal cancellation conditions will apply if sufficient notice is not given.
You must inform us if your dog has received a kennel cough vaccine. This is a live vaccine which dogs can shed for 2 weeks during which time we will not allow your dog into the centre.
Dogs that have suffered vomiting, Diarrhea or coughing in the last 48hrs will not be permitted in the centre.
You must make the Hydrotherapist fully aware of any handling issues/likes/dislikes your pet may have so we can safeguard our staff and your pet.
Barkers shall not be liable for any injury or damage howsoever caused to your pet during a hydrotherapy session, including but not limited to any claim arising from any condition of your pet that is either known or unknown to us, other than in respect of any injury or damage arising as a result of Barkers K9 negligence.

You may wish to consider vaccinating your dog against kennel cough.
Please allow at least 48 hours before and after your pet’s session to apply topical flea or worming treatment to your pet, otherwise the water will wash away the treatment and thus make it ineffective.

All therapy treatments must be paid in full, before or at the time of the session.
